Addiscombe Railway Park

Event 21st August 2011

Thank you Volunteers your assistance was much appreciated.

We held our first public event on 21st August 2011 in the park.

A large number of people turned up, both those interested in what was happening and volunteers who were willing to help with a little gardening work.

Work started at around 14:00 and continued until around 16:30. We were very fortunate with the weather, with conditions dry and sunny.

Equipment and tools were provided by BTCV.

Four teams were deployed.

One team tackled the undergrowth around the apple tree.
Another mulching around trees near the school fencing.
The third cleared undergrowth from around the saplings along the school wall and applied a mulch around them.
A fourth group cleared large sycamore saplings from the embankment near Dalmally Passage, and pruned back brambles overhanging the verge in front.

There were reports of many ladybirds and a frog being found during clearance work near the school, but unfortunately no photographs.

A young volunteer wrote: "I really enjoyed today. Everyone was really friendly and we did a lot of hard work that paid off".
