Identifying Birds - Page 1
Many of the most common inland UK birds are shown below. Most birds eat grubs and insects and feed them to their young. Male birds are usually brighter coloured than the females.

Chaffinch - The male is brightly coloured and the female is brown with the same wing pattern. Eats seeds. | Greenfinch - Eats seeds, including peanuts. | ||
Robin - Eats grubs, prefers meal worms. Will eat bread, cake, fat, cheese. | Great Tit - Eats seeds, likes peanuts. | ||
Blue Tit - Eats seeds, likes peanuts. | Blackbird - The Female is brown with a dark bill. Eat fruit, berries, bread, cake and fat. | ||
House Sparrow - Eats seeds, bread, peanuts and cake. They are often heard churping. | Hedge Sparrow - Rarely visits bird tables. Sometimes eats grated cheese or bread on the ground. | ||
Starling - Noisy bird often seen in flocks. Looks white spotted in the winter. Eats anything. | Song Thrush - Eats worms, snails. |
